Day 02 in Iloilo City was the main event for the trip – the Visayas Blogging Summit and the Philippine Blog Awards.

Here are other photos I took on my second day in the City of Iloilo – photos other than those of the blogging summit and the Philippine Blog Awards.

My trip to Iloilo last weekend was actually not my first time to visit the city.

I had been there twice before – the first time was in the early 90′s and the second time was like 3 years ago. Both trips, however, were merely the passing-through kind.

The first time was a company visit to the Iloilo branch for a brief staff meeting and I was off to the pier for the short ferry trip across to Bacolod.

The second time we were traveling with a Lakbay Aral group from Leyte on its way to Boracay. Upon our ship’s arrival from Cebu City, we just had breakfast at one of the local restos (I cannot recall its name.) Then off we went for the 4-hour trip to Caticlan.

Last weekend’s trip, Nov. 26-29, to Iloilo for the Visayas Blogging Summit was, therefore, more of the real getting-to-know-more kind of a trip. Three nights and four days! Weee!

Getting to Iloilo from Tacloban, however, is not that fast and easy. Months ahead I already booked on flights – first, from Tacloban to Cebu, then from Cebu to Iloilo.

Due to some flight sked changes, I had to burn some 5 hours at the Mactan Airport last Friday, Nov. 26 before I finally got on my Cebu-Iloilo flight.

I arrived at Iloilo’s new airport terminal – which is impressive, by the way – past 4PM (yeah, I know – that airport should have been the one standing at Tacloban City now! Whew! But that’s another story.)

Anyway, it’s about 15 kms to the city and I had to take a shuttle van (P50 fare, about 30 minutes drive) to one of the SM’s in the city (there are 3 SM’s in Iloilo!) and from there take a cab to Days Hotel at The Atrium where we, bloggers, had a reservation.

By 5PM I was at my well-appointed room.

The photos…

Day 01: Arrival in Iloilo

Iloilo Airport Terminal was quiet when we arrived… another plane left earlier for Cebu; probably there were no other flights at that time in the late afternoon.

When I launched the gerryruiz photoblog on September 25, 2007, I only had the faintest idea of what “blogging” was really about, nothing much except that it was a web log – some sort of a journal.

And I thought to myself, hey, wouldn’t it be nice to post photos in lieu of a diary-type journal? It would also serve as a repository for my budding digital photo files – photos taken with a point & shoot Sony Cybershot (and a good back-up in case my drive crashes again!)

I had no idea then where it would lead me to, nor did I expect that the passion on photography would eventually consume me in due time…

The photoblog also served as an outlet for me for the creative itchiness I would feel time and again. I was simply posting at will with no regularity at all – only when I felt like it and when something would come up which I thought would be interesting to share with my small circle of internet friends.

Hence, when Eric Dee, aka Byahilo – an established and known blogger based in Manila – urged me last June to join him and attend the Visayas Blogging Summit set for end of November in Iloilo City, my interest was rekindled. It was a chance for me to get to know more what blogging really is about and how the more established and known Filipino bloggers do it.

A planned historical and cultural tour around Iloilo during the summit was the clincher! Great photo ops!

Hence I booked early to avail of cheaper airfares and had my mind set on attending the Visayas Blogging Summit in Iloilo on Nov 27 & 28.

And so the time finally came – I flew to Iloilo last Friday, November 26 for the Visayas Blogging Summit.

The whole day summit was held at Cinema 2 inside Iloilo’s SM City. Had the chance to meet fellow bloggers from Iloilo, Bacolod, Roxas, Cebu and some coming from Manila. Great time comparing notes and having extended exchange of ideas!
