The Ulot River Torpedo Boat Adventure experience at Paranas, Samar – the longest river in the entire Samar island crossing all 3 provinces, Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar.

The Torpedo Boat Adventure route, however, only traverses 11.5 kilometers of this lengthy river (23 kms back and forth) and takes about an hour downstream, and over an hour upstream back to the jump-off point.

The jump-off point is located near the HQ of the Samar Island Natural Park (SINP) in Paranas, Samar along the Buray-Borongan highway.

Getting there: It’s about 1.5 hours drive from Tacloban City to the jump off point. From Tacloban City, head on to Catbalogan, Samar via the Maharlika Highway. Upon reaching the Buray junction (this is before Catbalogan), turn right headed for Borongan. SINP HQ is 16 kilometers from the Buray junction.

The Abuyog Hotel formally opened its doors to the public in simple inaugural and blessing ceremonies held Eastern Sunday, April 24, 2011.

Abuyog Mayor Octavio “Bebot” Traya and former Represesentative and now Baybay Mayor Carmen Cari led the ribbon cutting ceremony formally opening the new three-storey, P29M project of the Abuyog Local Government Unit (LGU).

Located at the heart of Abuyog near the Public Market and the Municipal Building, the new hotel now provides comfortable accommodation options to guests and travelers traversing the central-eastern region part of Leyte province.

The three-storey landmark showcases a well-refurbished lobby, a restaurant, function rooms, and a rooftop cafe and lounge with a panoramic view of the entire municipality and environs.

For the internet savvy, there’s free high-speed wi-fi web access.

The hotel project was started in 2006 during the time of former Mayor Ofelia Traya initially funded by a P15 million allocation. Another P14 million was released this year for its completion.

The hotel is currently staffed by some 20 local personnel and would be complemented by students taking up Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) at the Abuyog Community College (ACC).

An added direction further boosting the tourism industry in the area is the LGU’s plan to develop soon a mountain resort in Barangay Balinsasayaw.

The hotel’s promo room tariff ranges from P1,788++ to P2,700++.

The country’s longest, highest, steepest and most exciting zip line had its debut recently – the Zip Southern Leyte!

And everyone’s itching to experience the ride of a lifetime!

Zip Southern Leyte had its soft opening last April 15, 2011 and guests were able to try out the zip line for the first time – for free!

Now, hear this: with a length of almost 1 kilometer, it’s the longest in the country today. Average ride duration: 30 seconds.

It’s at the highest elevation. One “flies” over Agas-Agas Bridge – now currently the tallest bridge in the Philippines – at a take off pad with a height equivalent to a 30-storey high building.

It’s the steepest. Having the largest angle of decent makes for having speeds upwards of 110kph, depending on body weight. A rider weighing 40kgs reaches a max speed of 100kps; one weighing 65kgs can reach speeds of up to 140kph.

The Zip Southern Leyte is just one of the major attractions at the Agas Agas Adventure Park which will have full operation by July 1, 2011 in time for the province’s 51st founding anniversary. Other extreme sports facilities like bungee jumping, downhill skateboarding, rappelling, ATV (all terrain vehicle) and cable car are in the pipeline.

The Agas-Agas Adventure Park is a 2-hour drive from Tacloban City via the Maharlika Highway at the famous bridge connecting the towns of Mahaplag, Leyte and Sogod, Southern Leyte.

Zip Southern Leyte’s  rates as announced by the DOT 8:
P280 – regular rate per person
P250 – rate per person for a group of 10 or more
