Grand Champion: Entry No. 11 by Rodel Peñaranda
The parol made by Rodel Peñaranda of the Tacloban National Agriculture School in Basper bested 18 other entries to grab the 1st Place prize in this year’s Palamrag Parol Competition – Tacloban City’s Christmas lantern-making contest – during judging held last night, December 04 at Robinson’s Place Tacloban.
Second Place went to the entry made by Raffy Mark Advincula of EVSU while 3rd Place was won by Kristopher Homeres of Brgy. 35, Pampanggo.

Concept and Events Director Don Dolina disclosed that a total of 18 entries were submitted in this year’s annual parol-making contest – an annual Christmas activity of the Tacloban City government under the helm of Mayor Alfred Romualdez.
The contest, which was launched November 15, required entries to meet the following specifications: must be made of indigenous materials, have a size of not more than 4′ x 4′ x 4′, must be well-lighted and can be displayed outdoors.
Judging of the contest entries, Dolina said, was based on the following criteria: artistry – 30%; originality of design – 30%; visual impact – 20%; lighting – 10% and use of indigenous materails – 10%. Members of the Board of Judges were Bert Suyom, Ryan Cerdiña and Leny Bañez.
