Ormoc City’s May Obando grabbed the top prize of P200,000 in the 5th Season of Leyte IDOL held Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the jampacked LNHS Gym in Tacloban City.

The show was but another reconfirmation of how good the Leyteño talents are in the field of singing. The governor himself started the ball rolling with his opening vocal number.

Lisa and Nelson were THE photographer’s perfect couple for a prenup!

Obviously fun-loving, carefree and full of zest for life, Lisa and Nelson breezed through our shoot effortlessly.

They’re a natural!

And like what the priest said during homily, “Marriage in the Philippines is forever” – I bet they’re gonna be.

As in forever forever.

We did it!

The Warays made history Sunday by breaking the Guinness World Records (GWR) on the largest wine tasting event.

The official figure: 7,187 participants.

Prior to Sunday’s event, the Guinness World Records wrote An Waray Party-List – Octubafest Tagay’s organizers:

“The current record for ‘Largest wine tasting event’ is:

The largest wine tasting event involved 5,095 participants at the Plaza de Toros in Aranda de Duero, Spain on September 15, 2006.“

That changed Sunday, October 18, 2009 when over 10,000 Waray-warays trekked to the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park at the Government Center in Pawing, Palo to participate in the world breaking attempt and also to raise relief aid for the victims of the recent typhoons that devastated Luzon.

After validating registration records, the Philippine Institute of Public Certified Accountants (PICPA) certified that 7,187 actually participated in the wine tasting event of our native coconut wine – tuba. There were at least 3,000 more who were there to witness the event.

Before the record can be officially changed, organizers have to submit to GWR all evidence – registration records, official certifications and documentary evidence to back up the formal claim.

Once done, we hope it would put the Warays on the world map!

calle Z Productions was commissioned to document the annual grand alumni homecoming of the Divine Word University – Tacloban held June 28, 2009 at the DWU grounds.

Dubbed as Kirigta Kita! 2009, this year’s reunion was organized and hosted by high school Class ‘84 led by its president, Atty. Raoul Creencia.

Finally, the long-awaited modernization of the Tacloban DZR Airport now seems to be taking shape with the groundbreaking rites for the project held April 28, 2009 led by no less than Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Total cost for the DZR (Tacloban) Airport Redevelopment Project is estimated to amount to P4.1 billion which will be funded on a year-by-year basis by the national government under the General Appropriations Act. It is being implemented by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) under Secretary Leandro Mendoza.

In an unprecedented sweep of three festivals in a span of less than a year, the Buyogan Festival of Abuyog, Leyte was declared the Grand Champion of the Aliwan Fiesta 2009 Festival of Festivals at the Aliw Center-Quirino Grandstand early Sunday morning, April 26 in Manila.

Finally, it happens tomorrow, April 25, 2009 – the ultimate stage of the biggest and grandest festivals in the Philippines – the Aliwan Fiesta 2009.

It is at Aliwan Fiesta where winners of the country’s major festivals meet and compete for the grand title as Champion of the Philippines’ Festivals and a top prize of P1M.

The fiesta’s grand parade kicks off tomorrow at 4:00 in the afternoon in front of the Aliw Theater, CCP Complex and winds up at Quirino Grandstand where a star-studded awarding ceremony will cap the festival.

Representing Leyte are two prestigious festivals – the Buyogan Festival of Abuyog which is the current champion of Cebu’s Sinulog 2009 Festival and the Leyte Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival ‘08; and the Karatong Festival of Dulag which placed 2nd in the Leyte Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival ‘08 and 5th at the Sinulog Festival ‘09.

calle Zaragosa Productions was again commissioned by the Buyogan Foundation, Inc. to document the preparations and performances of the Buyogan Festival at the Aliwan Fiesta 2009.

We motored with the contingent on their trip by land and ferry from Tacloban City all the way to Manila on April 21-22 in 6 buses, 2 trucks and 1 escort vehicle. Blocking and dress rehearsals were held at the Philippine Normal University campus, at the Aliw Theatre at CCP Complex and finally at the Quirino Grandstand at Luneta.
